SOUTHWEST TWIN ANNOUNCES SECOND SEASON OF PROGRAMMING

Southwest Twin to hold free, bi-weekly programming beginning in August

MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE - Beginning August 10th, Southwest Twin will present their second season of programming, with bi-monthly community events to be held at the Drive-In site in Westwood. Bring the family to enjoy a variety of activities designed to make community connections, promote well-being, and provide a lot of fun. Enjoy arts and crafts, yoga classes, and story time with the Memphis library, and learn how to grow your own garden with free herb and vegetable seedlings in recurring workshops provided by Everbloom Farmacy.

The August 10th kickoff will serve as an introduction to the series of events and will be followed by five other community days, culminating in an October 19th Community Harvest Celebration and Festival with entertainment, activities, vendors, and food trucks. Included in the recreational activities are free workshops that cover food gardening at home. Participants will learn to pot seeds, various grow methods, food preparation and canning, and other skills.

“This is an opportunity to engage our residents while having a great time,“ said Ashley Cash, Housing & Community Development Director for the City of Memphis.  “The City is committed to creating a space here in Westwood that will serve as a community hub, connect neighbors, and bring visitors from all over the city.”

The first five community days will be held from 9:00 am - 11:00 am at the Southwest Twin Drive-In site at 4233 S. 3rd Street. Beverages and light snacks will be available. The Community Harvest Celebration and Festival on Oct. 19th will be held from noon to 4:30 pm.

ABOUT SOUTHWEST TWIN - Originally known as the 61 Drive-In, Southwest Twin was purchased and expanded by Malco Theaters in 1965, entertaining Memphians until its closing in 2001. After a brief stint as a flea market, the property languished until 2022, when the City of Memphis and Shelby County invested in a revitalization plan. The mission of Southwest Twin is to serve as a catalyst for change in Westwood and transform the site into a thriving destination that promotes community involvement, economic development, stakeholder engagement, and economic growth.
